Awaits grand installation from Master wildlife sculptor Kirk McGuire, founder of Kirk McGuire Bronze Sculpture, has officially finalized his latest public art masterpiece. Commissioned exclusively for the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, this breathtaking, four and a half foot-tall custom bronze monument is fully completed and currently awaiting its permanent, grand installation by the college. Once placed, this commanding fine art monument will stand as an everlasting tribute within the legendary 34-acre UC Berkeley Botanical Garden, proudly recognized as the third-largest campus garden system in the United States.The monument honors the incredible life and legacy of the late, beloved Environmental Sciences Professor, global warming authority, and Entomologist Dr. Jan Washburn. To bring this vibrant, wild ecosystem to life with absolute anatomical precision, the university orchestrated an unprecedented botanical collaboration, loaning a rare, living specimen of the critically endangered Green Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia oreophila) directly to Kirk McGuire’s coastal studio. Forged in immortal bronze, the finished sculpture showcases three magnificent carnivorous pitcher plants seamlessly intertwined with multiple hyper-realistic green tree frogs captured mid-motion and an exquisitely detailed dragonfly boasting intricate wing veins—a direct reference to Dr. Washburn's brilliant scientific life work.This epic artistic journey ignited when Jan's close friend, Joe Acanfora, set out alongside a dedicated circle of peers to immortalize the beloved educator. A simple online search led Acanfora straight to Kirk McGuire’s world-class online portfolio, sparking an instant and electric creative connection. Following a collaborative Zoom summit with elite university curators and campus decision-makers, McGuire's design won instant, unanimous approval based entirely on his brilliant initial sketches and a mesmerizing, traditional hand-sculpted maquette."To this day, this project stands as one of the most touching, emotionally meaningful endeavors of my 40-year sculpting career," says fine artist Kirk McGuire. "They say Jan and I would have shared an instant kinship over our mutual love of nature. While I never had the opportunity to know him in life, it is a profound honor to bring his beautiful spirit to life in everlasting bronze through Kirk McGuire Bronze Sculpture."
